Dormitories play a crucial role in students' daily lives and studies. To ensure a safe and comfortable living environment, the University conducted a safety inspection and rectification initiative for the dormitories from November 11 to 27, 2024. This effort encompassed nearly 3,000 dormitory rooms across several buildings, including 1A, 1B, 2B, South 3, 5B, 2A, 5C, and 5A in the South Area.
During the inspection, a total of 353 violations and safety concerns were identified. These included the use of high-power electrical appliances, obstruction of fire escape routes, the presence of pets, unauthorized room modifications, and equipment malfunctions. Given the high density of occupants in student dormitories, safety issues posed significant risks and were taken seriously. Below were some examples of violations to raise awareness among everyone.

Active cooperation from all students during safety inspections contributes to a positive dormitory environment. The University has issued verbal warnings/ warning letters and corrected misbehavious for individuals found in violation of regulations during these inspections. If serious violations of the "Regulations for Postgraduate Accommodation of HKUST(GZ)" are identified again, and if there is no improvement despite repeated guidance, the case will be referred to the University’s Disciplinary Committee for further action.
