We are currently in the post-flood season. The post-flood season typically refers to July to September, mainly affected by typhoons, tropical depressions, and other tropical weather systems. It brings intense rainfall often accompanied by strong winds and is a period of frequent severe convective weather such as typhoons, rainstorms, and thunderstorms with gales. To help students raise disaster prevention awareness and ensure personal safety, the Student Housing Management Center has compiled the following safety tips. Please keep them in mind and share them with others.
I. Keep Monitoring Weather Alerts
Please pay close attention to the four-tier rainstorm alerts (blue, yellow, orange, red) issued by meteorological authorities. Adjust your travel plans according to the alert level, reduce outdoor activities, and plan your safety arrangements in advance. When the alert is upgraded, stay highly vigilant and do not take it lightly.
II. Travel Safety Reminders
-
Do not wade through standing water. Hidden dangers such as missing manhole covers, potholes, and live electrical wires may exist beneath the surface. Please take dry, detoured routes.
-
Stay away from dangerous areas. During rain, stay away from rivers, ditches, slopes, and areas under bridges. Rapid currents can be dangerous — do not stop to watch or play in the water.
-
Avoid electrical facilities. During heavy rain, stay away from utility poles, transformers, streetlights, and other electrical facilities. Do not touch cables submerged in standing water.
III. Dormitory Safety Precautions
-
Close doors and windows. Close doors and windows promptly and bring in balcony items to prevent wind and rain from entering or falling objects.
-
Cut off power if water enters. If water enters your dormitory, immediately cut off the main power supply and stay away from sockets and electrical appliances to avoid electric shock.
-
Unplug non-essential devices. During thunderstorms, unplug non-essential electrical devices to avoid lightning damage.
-
Report issues promptly. If you notice water seepage or leakage in your dormitory, please contact the dormitory management staff promptly.
IV. Prepare Emergency Supplies
We recommend keeping the following emergency supplies in your dormitory for self-rescue and calling for help in critical moments:
-
Drinking water and dry food
-
Flashlight and spare batteries
-
First-aid items
-
Power bank
V. Emergency Response
In case of an emergency, stay calm and contact the dormitory management staff or relevant university departments immediately. Follow the University's unified instructions and evacuate in an orderly manner.
Disaster prevention is everyone's responsibility. Please stay vigilant and help safeguard campus safety together.
